Roland Garros is launching operation Sourire Tranche Papaye
Roland Garros airport is the most important of the Réunion. With 2 million of passengers by year, it is also one of the most important of the area: most of flights between Europe and this part of Indian Ocean are passing by Roland Garros and half of the flights are operating by Air Austral, the local airline. However, this traffic could lead to flight delays, cancellations and overbooking.
Peak period, how to avoid flight delays and cancellations ?
Austral winter starts the 8 of July until the end of September, for Réunion is a strong peak period. Roland Garros Airport is preparing for the passengers and flights increase, mainly form Metropolitan France via Air Austral, Air France, Corsair and French Blue. Indeed, the airport announces an increase of 4% for the flights and 14% for the passengers during this period.
The airport launches an operation, Sourire Tranche Papaye (« Smile Slice Papaya ») in public area and boarding room in order to fluidize customer’s passage. For instance, the departure hall is only reachable for passengers, kiss and fly is extended and security lines are specified for each flight.
This operation is mainly the result of building works in the boarding room: the room is going to be extended with shops and restaurants. Roland Garros wants to be more like an important international airport
Consequences for passengers : flight delays, cancellations and overbooking
Unfortunately, this peak period could lead to many flight delays, cancellations and even overbooking. In theses cases, you should remember that as a passenger you have rights: the airline must give you something to eat and to drink, ways of communicate and, if applicable, a place to sleep.
In case of rebooking, we strongly suggest you to keep your ticket: it could help your claim. In the same spirit, keep the bills if you have to pay in something in case the airline doesn’t respect its responsibilities in order to get a refund.
